I have one of those cheap 7" China jobs which I use as an eBook reader and not much more.

Suddenly it won't start, by which I mean that I see the "BIOS screen" with the green Android robot and the OS version, kernel version and SDK version, then it shows a black screen with the word "Android" forever.

There is no software installed apart from the eBook reader, so I don't mind doing a "hard reset".

How can I bring the tablet back to life?

Contact eBay seller from whom you purchased the tablet. – Sachin Shekhar Feb 26 '12 at 18:02

Did any manuals or documentation come with this thing? Is there a manufacturer's website for tech support? Look for ways to get into "Recovery Mode" which should have options for doing a "factory reset".

+1 Sorry, no, it was a real cheap China-made, bought on eBay for $99 a years or so ago and has neither a handbook nor any indication of the manufacturer on either the device or the box. – Mawg Jun 28 '11 at 0:33
Are there any hardware buttons besides the Power button? Like Volume up/down? Often the recovery mode is accessed with a combination of buttons held down while powering up. Try turning the reader off, and then while holding down Volume Up press Power to boot up. If that does nothing, turn it off and try again while holding Volume Down this time. – Chahk Jun 28 '11 at 0:51

Here's a summary of problems with ANDROID 1.6 TABLET 7" WMT2.1.2_105 (MID or Apad) which may be fixed by my solution below:

  • Freezes after the "Loading" message during boot-up.
  • While the Android system is loading, after a few seconds the display turns off and don't work.
  • Touchscreen does not respond/does not work.
  • When upgrading the Tablet's OS, you may see the message: "Udisk not found (/dev/sda) Failed Upgrading filesystem. Exit!"
  • Or resetting the device does not work.

I have the same problems with my Android Tablet and finally after several attempts< I found this patch: https://rapidshare.com/files/3675403255/2.0188_99.rar

So, when you download it you must unzip it (you can unzip it with WinZip which you can here download at free trial mode: http://www.winzip.com/win/en/downwz.htm )

When you unzip it you will see folder with name "2.0188". Open this folder and you will see folder with name "script", copy the folder "script" in your micro SD/TF memory card which you will put in your Android Tablet (ATTENTION: Memory card must be TOTALLY empty!).

  1. Connect your Android Tablet with charger.
  2. Make sure the tablet is off!
  3. Put memory card in your Android Tablet.
  4. Turn on the tablet.
  5. Now it will update do not interrupt this it can take 5 min.
  6. Wait until the tablet says remove memory card.
  7. When you remove the memory card the device will OFF.
  8. Activate your device and you will be ready to use it again!

(ATTENTION: If you want to use the same memory card in your device you must delete the folder with name "script" from it - Copy the folder "script" in your PC if you want again reset your Android Tablet).

Not a bad solution, but your d.l link is dead for the firmware at rapidshare. – dave Mar 19 at 9:05
