Just wondering if there are any apps out there that already support the device or do I need to write my own?

An app called Torque works with most of the ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII devices. be careful though, some of the "cheap" ones don't work well with Ford vehicles. I bought this one, and it works well, even with Ford, and it was only ~$20.
