Put the file into Dropbox, and use the Dropbox app on the device. It's very easy, and works a treat.

You can do adb install app.apk or if you put the *.apk up on some website you can just download it and install it.

Just to clearify this: adb install app.apk requires that you have the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) installed on your mac – alextsc Aug 22 '11 at 19:05
