This question came from our site for computer enthusiasts and power users.

why is it not preinstalled on your device? – clamp Dec 22 '11 at 10:05
Obviously, because a manufacturer didn't want me to use an alternative to its own proprietary cloud base browser. Does it make a difference to where I can download the apk from? – noober Dec 22 '11 at 11:19
no i was just curious as to why there is a device without the default browser. – clamp Dec 22 '11 at 12:42

I am not sure what phone you have so it's hard to know if there are any other ways around. However, there is a topic on XDA stating that this isn't a recommended approach at installing the browser.

The suggestion is to just install a custom ROM.

There is no (hopefully, yet) stable custom ROM for my device. I've read the discussion and I'd like to install additional core libs, if they are required to run the browser, even more, I suspect that these libs contain WebView component I need anyway. – noober Dec 22 '11 at 14:15
What device is that ;). You are keeping it too quiet. – Raul Marengo Dec 22 '11 at 15:05
