Android Enthusiasts Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for enthusiasts and power users of the Android operating system. It's 100% free, no registration required.

There are plenty of managers for book, music and movie collections but I'm looking for something that lets me define my own collections.

I've seen collectionistas which gives me just a big plain textbox - that's not good enough.

Bonus Points for:

  • Ability to add pictures from memory and or camera
  • Free

Must have:

  • No excessive permissions
  • Define my own fields
  • Sort by field or at least manual reordering of items

Does Barcode & Inventory Pro do what you're looking for?

  • It lets you define your own "Categories" (collections).
  • Items can be created from text, camera, gallery images, barcode scans, Amazon.com products, and user-defined templates.
  • You can sort by title, date created, price, quantity, or "marker" (user-defined).

  • It's currently $1.99, but it does have a 3 week trial version.

hmm. Not exactly what I had in mind but it seems like it could do what I need. I'm going to test it but I'm certainly open to more suggestions... –  Kempeth Feb 24 '12 at 14:44

Memento might be what you are looking for. Some random relevant features:

  • Free
  • 19 types of fields: – text, integer, boolean, date/time, rating, currency, image, audio, contact, Google Maps coordinate and others;
  • Ability to create your own databases with custom fields
  • Synchronize to Google Docs (spreadsheet)
  • Password protection
  • Barcode scanner
  • Backup and restore

Permissions (as of version 1.9.2.)

  • Location (I'd assume this is to input your current GPS coordinates)
  • Full internet access (for synchronization)
  • Read contact data (I assume this is for sharing with other people)
  • Modify SD storage (probably obvious why)
  • Mount and unmount file systems

I like most the freedom to create your own tables and databases, although it's a bit tedious to get all the fields just right. Google Docs synchronization is a seriously powerful feature.

Looks very promising, except that it wants to read my contacts. I also don't consider "Ad supported" to be free. I am after all paying for that bandwidth. –  Kempeth Feb 24 '12 at 16:08

Evernote: Have you tried using Evernote for this task? It allows pictures and the editor is one of the best I've seen on Android. Bonus: the widget is top notch as well. You could organize all items in one collection into a single notebook. Sorting by date and searching are possible (searches should let you filter on certain fields as well). Syncing with the cloud comes free, so you won't have to worry about losing data. You'll also have access to the web interface when you're not near your phone (gasp!). All this for free!

This is a bit more of a thinking-outside-of-the-box answer, but not knowing exactly your use case and detailed requirements, it may be what you are looking for.
