For leisure purposes, I would like an app that records where I go and shows on the map which route I haven't gone for a while by using, for example, cold and warm colors. Is there such an app?

Google Latitude, if enabled, will keep track of your positions over time on a map.

I remember finding a heat map generator for Latitude, but I can't seem to find it right now. You should be able to export your Google map points and create a heat map manually using a service or API that will do so.

I don't think Latitude does that by default, there may be something else that tracks it, but Latitude just remembers your last location, not a history of all of your locations. – Jeff Martin Oct 12 '10 at 22:27

@Jeff It does keep a history. You just have to view it on the website. I can see all the points of where I've been since I've been using Latitude. google.com/latitude/history/manage – Bryan Denny Oct 13 '10 at 12:44

Interesting, but you have to enable the history. Its not on by default. (it wasn't for me.) – Jeff Martin Oct 14 '10 at 22:49

I don't know one that specifically does exactly what you are asking. But the Google MyTracks app will map and collect routes that you travel (when you tell it to). You can then also post those routes to a Google maps account.

Another app that records your track, timings and history (but as far as I know unfortunately doesn't do anything to show how recent) is CardioTrainer.
