I have learned to love Google Listen, but the application is a bit rought and got some small errors like seeking not allowed, it takes long time to get updates because it relays on Google Reader. when network changes from edge to 3g downloads gets corrupted ++ more issues.

Also, Google has decided not open source the application and this makes the future of the application questionable.

So I wonder if anyone could recommend a better podcast application?

I like BeyondPod. It has a SmartPlay list that will automatically play newer podcasts like a playlist based on how you configure it. Also, its got a nice widget for playback.

Personally I use Doggcatcher. I used to use Listen before, but the biggest feature of Doggcatcher that I love is the auto-downloading of newer podcasts (and checking if I'm on wifi and/or power before doing so).

Doggcatcher has been getting a lot of updates recently, especially in the UI. Every update seems to make it look more visually attractive than the last. I've had no problems with the app in general.
