I have a cheap unbranded tablet running Anroid 4.0. I sometimes connect a USB keyboard, which works fine, but I want to type in Japanese! All the Japanese IMEs I've found seem to be touchscreen only.

Failing that, is there at least support for Japanese keyboard layouts?

(An IME is a piece of software that makes it possible to type in languages like Chinese or Japanese. You type the text phonetically, and the IME tries to figure out which character you wanted)

Have you bought it in Japan? I'd strongly expect a device sold there to support the local language. – Erik Apr 22 '12 at 12:09
Yes, I bought it in Japan. The tablet that arrived certainly supports the Japanese language, but the Japanese keyboard layout does not come pre-installed. – Pitarou Apr 23 '12 at 5:35
