When I discard an incoming call with template texts, the call is discarded but the SMS isn't sent.
My guess: The feature requires stock messaging app which I have removed (I use Go SMS Pro to handle its jobs). Am I right?

System: Samsung Galaxy S (ICS)

"Samsung Galaxy S" is not a specific device, this was a name given to several different pieces of hardware. Not that I think it'll make much difference, but it might help if you can specify which piece of hardware you have. I would guess that you are correct. Out of curiosity why did you want to delete the stock messaging app? – FoamyGuy Jul 13 '12 at 1:59
@Tim ROMs of Galaxy S devices (ICS) are same in context of question. Why do you need hardware info, by the way? – Sachin Shekhar Jul 13 '12 at 8:39
@Tim I don't like any of stock apps because of their high memory usage. That's why I have removed almost all of them (if I found a better replacement). – Sachin Shekhar Jul 13 '12 at 8:41
I'd say it does not directly depend on the stock app. SMS is a "generic service". The SMS app in use must instead have a listener running (to serve the corresponding event if fired). Comparable with pressing the "home" bringing up the homescreen, even with alternative launchers installed and the stock launcher removed. I might however be wrong, but at least it's this way with many other apps (launcher, camera, ...) – Izzy Jul 13 '12 at 8:51

@SachinShekhar I don't need it, but there are instances where it might make a difference. Perhaps not this one but I don't know for sure. My guess is that the Dialer application has the package name of the stock sms app embedded in it rather than using the intents that would be picked up by 3rd party sms apps as well. If you can find the source code for your Dialer.apk you should be able to find out for sure though. – FoamyGuy Jul 13 '12 at 13:09
