I have a home PC/server with SABnzbd (a usenet client). On my Galaxy Nexus I have the SabControl app which should provide remote access to my server/PC SABnzbd.

I can access the remote SABnzbd fine if my Galaxy Nexus is inside the same network (WLAN) but if I am outside using the phone network I cannot access it anymore.

Port 8080 is used to access SABnzbd.

My appconfig:

SABnzbd host: 192.168.xxx.xxx
Port: 8080
API Key: from sabnzbd
SABnzbd username: xxx
SABnzbd pw: xxx

Server:

Host: 0.0.0.0
Port: 8080
Username: xxx
Password: xxx
API Key: from sabnzbd (autogenerated)

Does somebody know how to setup the app or PC/server to make it work?

Maybe I need to use my external IP instead of the DHCP IP (found nothing on using an external IP).

Since you can't access your private IPs from the outside world (e.g. when connected to your carrier data network) you need to create a port forwarding from you public IP to your PC. See also superuser.com/questions/284051/… This should point you into the right direction. Since it's not an Android issue, this question is off-topic on Android.Enthusiasts. – Flow Aug 17 '12 at 12:30
i forwarded the port 8080 on my router. maybe it should be moved to superuser (if someone can do this?) cheers – Wandang Aug 17 '12 at 13:26
Wandang, you can flag the question and state as "other" reason that you request it to be moved to superuser. But it may take some time before the mods respond. – Flow Aug 17 '12 at 14:22
