So this is the scenario:

I am in France, using a French SIM.

My parents are in Italy and they send me an SMS.

When I send an answer the SMS is sent to the number, whithout the international prefix (the correct number is +39328XXXXXX but only 328XXXXXX is used as the number to send the SMS).

Andorid 2.3, Phone is Xperia U

A workaround is to search my parents phone number in the address book, then select send SMS, but it is very annoying.

Is there any solution to be able to reply withing the SMS app, using the good phone number?

It seems that PansiSMS solves the issue, but I do not really want to install a 3rd party app.

Which number is shown in the received SMS when you show the details of the SMS? The canonical phone number? – Flow♦ Aug 21 '12 at 17:20
The one without the international prefix. HOnestly it's ironic that Andorid can't handle a situatio like that, that any 10 years old 30$ cell phone can handle... – Paolo Aug 22 '12 at 18:48
I wouldn't blame Android, because then everyone would be affected which is obviously not the case. It could be the SMS app. But given the fact that the App itself shows only the country local number I would guess it's a carrier fail because he doesn't transform the SMS correctly – Flow♦ Aug 22 '12 at 18:59
