I use Gingerbread.

My Android phone has feature, that turns off display during call when I put the phone to my ear. However, the sensor is probably over-sensitive in my device, so it often turns off during call even when I don't keep it next to my face.

This is an issue if I want to use keyboard during call when the screen turns off. Can I disable this feature?

Screen turn off is managed by proximity sensor, so you will have to disable that. There seem to be some applications that will help you do that. Check Screebl Lite - Save Power! – blogger Aug 26 '12 at 12:19

In Gingerbread you can find it in Advanced Settings in the Call Settings: go to Settings -> Calls-> Advanced. I'm not sure where exactly but it's where you have the options of call waiting, etc.

That's extremely dependent on the ROM, looking here on GB 2.3.7, that does not exist! What ROM is that are you referring to? – t0mm13b Jan 15 at 16:16
thats 2.3.6! im sure its somewhere there. or press options in the keypad screen and check everywhere in preferences! – AbdulHannan Jan 16 at 5:09
check everywhere in preferences.... hummm... could do better than that! Enclose a screenshot of it, and should have stated GB 2.3.6 in your answer ... – t0mm13b Jan 16 at 15:02
For those who found this answer, and are looking for the answer on a newer android version, I found this on my Samsung Galaxy S 3, running Android 4.1.1, this is how I turned off that feature. Enter the dialer (the "Phone" icon", as if you wanted to make a call). Bring up the menu, and click "Call Settings". Uncheck "Auto Screen off during calls" – Mark Hildreth Feb 8 at 15:57

There is a free app named Screebl, that will keep your phone on during a call. In fact, you will have to physically shut your phone off/place it in standy, after you install this app by tapping the on/off button on a Samsung Galaxy Proclaim 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS.

You can't stop it from doing this, regardless of whether you've got the proximity sensor on or off or how long you've the time out set for. I've tried downloading every keep screen on app but none overrides this feature.

Refrain from using expletives that may offend others! Whiny Moany Grumbly type of an answer is not accepted! – t0mm13b Jan 13 at 18:26
I don't really care. I'm just giving the asker the only answer. They can keep wiping the sensor as much as they like. There is nothin they can do to alter it and it is a silly, inconvenient feature. A lot of people don't like it, there's stacks of threads covering the issue. – user26685 Jan 13 at 19:02
You're only talking about yourself! Fancy that, you came on here, to register and post a condescending and not-so-useful answer, and the answer is getting burned and downvoted for your attitude! Take your grievances elsewhere! – t0mm13b Jan 13 at 19:04
Its not condescending, nor is it not useful. It is the answer and I came on here to give it. Whether or not I used a mild swear is irrelevant. My answer can get marked down as much as you all please, I don't really live for the approval of this community. It doesn't change the fact its the answer. The result stays the same, you can't change it and its inconvenient. – user26685 Jan 13 at 20:52
In that case, you might as well not bother coming on to this forum and go elsewhere! You really think you're doing something useful there by posting such an answer like that, such that someone else had to go through the trouble in editing your answer for the benefit of the community! If you really are determined to change the fact about proximity sensor - then... why not go compile your own kernel and drop the proximity sensor support - problem solved! – t0mm13b Jan 13 at 21:07
