I'm looking for something similar to Droid VNC Server that will allow me to control my Droid with my computer without having to install the SDK. I'm not looking for something that just lets me transfer files and change settings, I'm looking for my Android screen to display on the computer and have full control of the phone with my keyboard and mouse. Any ideas or suggestions?

Rooted Froyo Moto Droid 1

Update: Let me add some clarification on exactly what I'm trying to do. I have a laptop at work running Windows XP and I want to be able to essentially turn that laptop into a screen and keyboard for my Moto Droid. I do not have access to the internet on the laptop and that is not going to change. The laptop has wifi but there are no wireless routers within reach and that is also not going to change. There is no bluetooth. I can also connect via USB (although it might be USB 1 not 2). So basically my connection options are ad hoc wireless (direct connect) or USB. I can install some light software like a VNC client or if possible ADB alone but I don't want to put the whole Android SDK on it. It may be possible for me to install a USB bluetooth dongle but this will be a pain and I only want to do it if I am sure it will yield the desired result.

Beyond that I'd love to just use my phone on my home computer and there I can do just about anything I want but while I haven't done it I think I know how (it's just not a high priority). That being said I am still interested in solutions that would fit this less restrictive scenerio but I am really looking for a way to accomplish the former.

USB 2.0 was introduced 9 years ago in 2001 with data rate of ~57 MB/s (= 480 Mb/s); if your laptop truly does not support USB 2.0, are you sure you're not looking for a replacement laptop? – Lie Ryan Dec 16 '10 at 10:37

Why should droid VNC server require the SDK? It works for me without it.

Another option is PicMe, which is generally a screen capture tool, but also works as a remote-control.

Everything I've read about droid vnc says that it need adb to be able to control your phone with the comp. So you can control your phone from your computer without it? – Matt Nov 24 '10 at 3:06
@Matt You shouldn't need ADB. Droid VNC Server just runs a VNC server on your phone, you can use any VNC Viewer app to access it. You'll just have to know the IP address of your phone (so it needs to be on wifi). – Bryan Denny Nov 24 '10 at 15:03
Just tested, and it works as Bryan says. No ADB required. droid VNC Server even helpfully prints the IP address and port on screen when you start the server. – TREE Nov 24 '10 at 16:14
Hmmm, I'm having trouble finding them again but I read two tutorials that said I needed ADB, but they were specific to connecting through USB. Does that matter? I tried connecting with USB and no ADB installed and couldn't get a connection. I was using TightVNC but may need to try a different viewer. As far as connecting via wifi, does it support an adhoc direct connection? I don't have any wap to connect to where I'm doing this. – Matt Nov 24 '10 at 20:47
Also, which viewers have you gotten it to work with? – Matt Nov 25 '10 at 9:21

+1 Very cool, thanks for sharing, but I don't have access to internet on the computer I'm trying to do this on. I've added some clarification to my request. – Matt Dec 15 '10 at 22:18
