Any one tried to root their Samsung Galaxy 5 (five) device? If so, what is the procedure? And also what are the advantages of doing this?

You can root it with Universal Androot. Just search the Android Market for it (or scan the barcode below), install it, run it, follow the instructions. The advantages include upgrading/removing system apps, installing custom ROMs, and the like.
