This may not be helpful for your case at all but I find it necessary to at least install the Google+ app on your phone as soon as you get it and enable Instant Upload so that pictures you've taken are automatically backed up to Google's servers if and when you have internet connection. This would come in handy for such cases as the above. I hope you manage to find a solution to your current dilemma. – Propeller Nov 8 '12 at 6:20
Sacrifice privacy for safety... Not everybody likes to have his/her data "in the cloud". But the general idea is not bad: one could e.g. use FolderSync to automatically sync misc stuff as soon as connected to the local network, so a) not only photos would be backed-up, and b) it's not necessarily "in the cloud", if one wishes for more privacy... – Izzy Nov 8 '12 at 12:18
@Carol: Can you provide some more information, if you remember: Is the device rooted? Is USB debugging turned on? Other useful information: Can you use the Android SDK? Idea behind my question is to access the device via ADB while connected to a computer via USB. One more thing: Pictures might be stored on SD card, which you can remove from the device and attach to your pc via a card reader. Last: Please check the "Related" section, some of the questions there sound promising. – Izzy Nov 8 '12 at 12:23
Thanks for caring, this is my first smart phone ever and i would gladly use the cloud in the future, i had trouble getting the pictures downloaded from phone to computer anyway. Tried to use the htc sync and finally gave up and used my windows program on computer to download, but the pics are a thumbnail size and don't enlarge so evidently i didn't download in the correct format. I just desperately want to get my data off then i can get a new phone, the phone was as it came from at&t so has the sense skin on it, whatever that means, i haven't modified or unlocked or anything, don't know how! – Carol Nov 8 '12 at 16:38
called some local data retrieval places but they say data is not accessible unless i get phone working, I haven't done anything to phone except try to turn it on since crash (I let it run completely down since on other android phones they say to remove battery and this one doesn't come out) – Carol Nov 8 '12 at 16:41
