Tried to root my mobile HTC One X AT&T Build number 1.73.502.1 710RD ATT US edition referring the following link.

Root HTC One X

Restarted twice but the phone was not rooted.

Does rooting require bootloader ?

The bug is probably fixed in your build. Try bin4ry's 'root many android!' exploit forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 –  ce4 Dec 31 '12 at 14:50
