I'm using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (toro) Verizon w/ their latest OTA 4.1.1, it's rooted but I'm not using 3rd party ROM, I'm using all stock but I REALLY want to go for latest 4.2.x, but once again without going to 3rd party ROM.

Is there a way for me to use Binaries for Nexus Devices - Android — Google Developers and then use Android 4.2.2 (or whichever is stable at that moment) and put it together so I can use it on my phone?

I think waiting for Verizon Wireless is going take FOREVER! ((

I want to write a blog about this to help people who's feedup w/ Verizon and to the fact that it's not a supported device yet some of us still on a contract and paying dearly for it on monthly basis!

Alexus, you say you don't want a 3rd party ROM -- but your description says you want to build a ROM yourself (taking Vanilla Android 4.2.2, add the device specific binaries, cooking it together -- that results in your very own custom ROM). So if you're inexperienced in ROM cooking, you might better go with a ready Custom ROM instead. – Izzy Feb 20 at 7:36
@Izzy I know, I sort of contradict myself)) but the main thing I guess is using vanilla/stock Android 4.2.2 w/out any other modifications other then bare minimum (binaries drivers). – alexus Feb 20 at 15:34
That doesn't speak against all custom ROMs. There are also quite "vanilla ROMs" available. Custom ROMs basically reach from two extremes: Extremely minimized to over-bloated. Just check Where can I find stock or custom ROMs for my Android device? for available choices. – Izzy Feb 20 at 15:51
@Izzy, once again I"m not looking to use someone else ROM as in most cases there are some additional customization is included which isn't always stable/functional. I'm looking to build my own ROM against ONLY vanilla 4.2.x and drivers for my specific device that being provided on Google's site and that's it! – alexus Feb 20 at 18:12

You can't flash Android 4.2.2 in your Galaxy Nexus SCH-i515 phone. Latest official Android version for your device is 4.1.1 so without using any other 3rd party ROMs, you can't update it to 4.2.2 until they release the official update.

You can get Android source and compile it against your phone, but that requires serious knowledge of your device, drivers and compiling in general. And since it isn't compiled by your phone provider, I think you can call it also 3rd party, because is neither Verizon nor Samsung.

I don't own SCH-i515 (not sure where you got that from) as I said in my original post I have toro (aka mysid) NOT GSM version and yes I'm very well aware that latest official version is 4.1.1. – alexus Feb 20 at 18:07
