I am looking to GPS track our fire trucks using either smartphone or phone enabled tablets on the trucks. (2 trucks initially, but more as the idea catches on) As a first step I would like the positions of each truck to be visible on a map (presume a google maps map) when viewed either on a web page back at the station or on the tablets themselvesin the field. It is important that the position of all trucks is identifiable on the same screen, not one at a time.

As a further step, I would like the ability to draw both temporary and permanenet points of interest on the map, either as points or lines which can be seen using the mobile devices, or on that same web page back at station.

I know there are location finding devices (where's my droid etc) which show the position of ONE phone, but is there anything available wihich can show more than a single mobile point at a time? As you may guess, I am new to this stuff, but it seems to offer great promise if I can find the right app.

Why Google Latitiude can do this. You just need to enable it from Google Maps. Follow this guide to set it up. I'd recommend adding this app to the mix.
