My Samsung S5830 disconnects whenever I try to pick up a call from my doctor's surgery, as the number comes up Unknown.

What could be the reason for this? And how can I change it?

Does the phone ring? And not "hang up" before you try to answer the call? I.e. if you would not pick it up, would it keep ringing, as with any other incoming call? – Izzy Apr 6 '13 at 12:06
What version of Android? Chances are there's a blacklist somewhere within the Android itself! Presumably you are not running any call blocking software. Try Settings > Calls to see if the blacklist is in there? – t0mm13b Apr 6 '13 at 22:49
