Is there a productivity suite for organizing group trips?

My cousin, who is an active member of his university organization, is going to organize an charity drive event where he need to assign students into groups and ask for donation on different places.

I suggested that he should a spreadsheet - excel, google doc, etc- to organize students into groups and Google Map to plan the charity drive places. The only missing thing is having the ability to track how each group progress along the designated route.

I am looking for an Android app to track how well his group progresses since some of his group leaders have an android phone. However, I was thinking "there's got to be a single application where he can do all the above in one place". Now the question: "Is there an application that will help my cousin do all the above ?"

Google Docs sounds like a reasonable solution. It's lightweight, flexible, and editable both on a desktop and on a phone. Introducing complex location tracking applications to organize a group of volunteers seems like an overkill.
