I am developing several Android Apps that requires barcode scanning (inventory, POS, etc.). Does anybody know about any barcode scanner hardware for at least one Android device, preferably hardware similar to the LineaPRO sleeve for iPhone?

My google-fu doesn't seem to help me much here.

Why don't you use Barcode Scanner, to use the builtin camera to scan the barcode? It works great.

Or you can integrate their library in your own applications.

I've never heard of any hardware barcode scanner that is an addon to an Android device. There are however Bluetooth barcode scanners that can work with Android devices, for example these ones. See here for a driver that works with such scanners.

After a lot of searching, I've found two vendors that come close to what I need, and I'm giving this answer to my own question in the hope that it will help others:

Grabba seems to be working on a sleeve design that connects directly to the device (HTC Desire HD 2). This eliminates the hassle of dealing with a bluetooth connection (in many production environments the user simply don't have the skill set to deal with that). Unfortunately it isn't released yet. The plus is that the HTC Desire HD 2 is an excellent device.

Sumlung have a bluetooth reader with a sleeve design. I'm not sure the design is stable enough with many devices. The plus is that it is available for sale right now.

If anybody finds a reader with sleeve design for a decent Gingerbread device, preferably with built-in high-capacity battery, I'll be more than happy to make it the proper answer to my question.

Riotec, the manufacturer of barcode scanner in Taiwan, developed the docking barcode scanner "DC9250" for Android smartphone/tablet use. You can connect to the website (http://www.riotec.com.tw/products/Docking%20Device.php) to check the product specification first.

Before you buy DC9250, you must check whether your Android device support OTG function. With OTG function, your device can recognize DC9250 as barcode scanner. If not, your micro USB port is just used for charging & communicating with computer only.
