The Facebook Home app doesn't really do much itself. It gets all its data from the main Facebook app, so it doesn't need to access the Internet. Doing any action from the launcher uses an intent to launch the main Facebook app, so it doesn't need to (say) access your location or take photos to make posts: only the main Facebook app does.
The same goes for ...

First, in the Facebook app, under its Settings, enable synchronization for all contacts.
Open up your contact list and select the Google contact you would like to merge. Then push the menu button and select "Edit Contact". Then hit the menu button one more time and select "Join".
Choose which contact you would like to merge it with and you should be good ...

From your contact list, select the Facebook contact that you would like to edit. Click the menu button and choose Edit Contact. You'll see an indication that the user is a Facebook contact and may not be edited. Now click the Menu button again and choose New contact. This will create a new contact in your address book and merge the Facebook profile ...

Funnily enough, as I just noted here I believe that the app is just buggy and unreliable. There's no reason for the individual device to determine whether the application can do something like push notifications. Android's cloud to device messaging requires 2.2 or higher, and the Facebook post notes that that's what they require as well, so I assume that's ...

Stock Android doesn't offer ability to disallow apps use of specific permissions. At install time, once you agree to accept whatever permissions the app requests - you are stuck with them unless you uninstall the app.
Since you are rooted, you can try using Tasker to automate enabling of GPS only when using certain apps like Maps, and disabling it when the ...

I'm using Android 2.1 and the latest official Facebook App.
I go to the gallery and long-press on an image. In the menu, select SHARE and in the list of apps displayed choose FACEBOOK.
I immediately am taken to a text field where I can type in a caption.
by default the images are sent to the MOBILE UPLOADS folder/album, but you can create a new album and ...

Similar to Permissions Denied, mentioned by Matthew is LBE Privacy Guard which also allows you to selectively disable permissions for apps. Also good for disabling geo-tagging on your photos as well as preventing Facebook and/or Twitter from broadcasting your location.

Facebook have a separate app these days called Facebook Messenger, this has both Facebook's chat and inbox features in it. Why they've split it out into a separate app now, I don't know, but this should give you what you're after:
Facebook Messenger is a faster way to send mobile messages to friends.
With Messenger, you can send and receive messages ...

On Contacts tab of stock contacts app, hit Options button. Then, choose more ~> Display Options.
On this screen, un-check Only contacts with phone numbers. Then, check all accounts whose contacts you want to delete (like Facebook, all Gmail groups). And, un-check all accounts whose contacts you don't want to delete (like Phone, SIM). Tap Save button after ...

This answer is certainly not eligible for the bounty, but I'm afraid the answer is: it's not possible.
Even though I can't share resources that do tell us that it's not possible, I can share resources you'd expect to have the answer, but don't:
This Google-fu leads mostly to development threads
Again, with "-developer" added things don't improve much
The ...

It seems the incompatibility came only on the current version. You may install and use an older version or wait till it becomes available to your device.
In this thread there is a link to an older apk version that should work.

That feature was removed in the 4.x versions of Android. I use UberSync for my contact syncing and it works great. Haven't had any problems with it and it also has a setting to import high res contact photos. I would recommend that. Set it up once and forget about it.

This was reported in the Android Central forum here with a link to LifeHacker. It sounds like it will allow you to sync your Facbook calendar without the birthdays because you're exporting the events directly from Facebook. First, you may want to undo the sync that you have going on now. Hope it helps.
Quoting the post from Android Central:
just go to ...

Is impossible for you to attempt to make the change withouth the device been rooted.
According to XDA Developers Thread, you need to go into your system ('/system/usr/keylayout/[devicename]-keypad.kl') folder located in your root, to change the keyboard layout.

An app like Permissions Denied (requires root) can help with that. It says it doesn't work on every device and ROM but there are other similar apps that might if this doesn't do the trick for you.
Generally you could also unpack the APK, edit the AndroidManifest.xml file to remove permissions, repack everything, and install that modified version. I'm not ...

Check that you have the calendar selected: go to Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> [your Facebook account] and make sure Sync calendar is selected. On some phones there might be a builtin Facebook sync which only takes care of the names, so if there is no Sync Calendar option, go to Add account and see if you have Facebook under Integrated contact ...

From your home screen, under Menu->Settings->Accounts&sync->Facebook you can uncheck Contacts. Obviously, this will stop your phone contacts from syncing to facebook, but after you get the list the first time, the only thing that really updates is the pictures, so disabling it should take care of it :)

Facebook have just released version 1.4 of their official Facebook app for Android, this has support for both the new Places and Groups features (this is the new Groups feature where you can group your friends, not the old Groups feature which is a bit like the current Pages feature).
If you've already got the official Facebook app installed, then you ...

"Facebook S! version 1" is Facebook for Samsung, available from the Samsung apps store on Samsung Android phones. This is their custom version of Facebook, not the standard Facebook for Android that's available from the Market, it is probably based on an older version of the Facebook app, and is definitely not the same as the current official Facebook app.

For those with Sense, you also can add the link manually (I find that Sense doesn't always add the notes tag to Google Contacts automatically). You can get the facebook "id" by going to graph.facebook.com/username instead of www.facebook.com/username (ie: after you click on a friend on the Facebook webpage, replace "www" with "graph"). Then just paste into ...

Yes, there is a way to do so in the mobile app.
I am using Facebook App Version 1.8.1 on a Motorola Droid 3.
The process I did to set a picture as my profile picture was as follows:
Started Facebook
At the top left there was an icon with 3 horizontal dashes that brings up the different sections of Facebook, I browsed down to the "Photos" section under ...

You can re-share your friend's post using FriendCaster for Facebook app. Simply install it and use it as your primary fb app. Its better than official fb app in many aspects..
Update (November 2012):
In recent version of official Facebook app, this feature has been added. Happy Re-Sharing!

Yes, there is a privacy setting that will prevent FriendCaster from being able to retrieve posts or other info from your friends if they have it enabled. Specifically, according to OneLouder's support site:

As always, it's a different Android device (but same Android version, however) so YMMV...
The Samsung Vibrant (aka Galaxy S) has a Mark as default menu option when you open a contact. If you have more than one linked contact (with different names), it allows you to select which name appears in the contact list.

There's nothing wrong with your phone, the photo upload feature for Facebook just doesn't work well. I also have a Moto DROID v1 running the stock 2.2.2 version of Android. Over the air uploads are terribly unreliable. The app often crashes, hangs at 0%, hangs at 100%, and very rarely, completes the upload. On a WiFi connection the uploads are slightly ...

First, in the Facebook app, go to settings -> Sync Contacts -> check either Sync all or Sync with existing contacts. Then in the contacts app, go to Display options and find your Facebook account in the list, then check All contacts. They should show up in your contact list then. To join them with existing google contacts, go into one of the contacts, ...
