"Side loading" is shorthand for installing applications from places other than the official Android Market. Such methods may be:
- installing from an alternative Marketplace (e.g., Amazon App Store)
- downloading an
apkfile from a website (such as directly from the developer) and installing
In either case, the "Unknown sources" setting must be turned on in order to side-load apps.
