I had the same problem and tried everything for two days, even did a factory reset, but nothing worked. Then I had an idea: the earpiece could've been blocked so I took an old toothbrush, brushed the ear piece for a minute to clear any debris and low, and behold it worked. So give it a try.

Maybe it happens because of the proximity sensor that most of the smartphones have just near the front camera. It detects when your ear is near the speaker and probably when it doesn't detect your ear it makes the speaker stop working. You can have a problem with the sensor or just with the speaker connections. In your case I would contact with Sony's ...
