I am the development team leader for London South Bank University, overseeing the development team and their day-to-day duties. I also still write code as well as setting the technical direction and making architectural decisions.
I've been developing software professionally for 20(!) years now...
I'm also an Android enthusiast and occasional developer. I've had Windows phones since 2002 but am now the proud (and hugely productive) owner of an HTC One S, along with a whole host of other Android phones and tablets.

Why is it that Android still can't be installed as regular OS? It would seem that adding the Android execution environment to Chrome might not be that hard if this is anything to go by... bluestacks.com - Android apps running on a Windows desktop! |

Where did the wifi sleep policy go in ICS? Holy cow, how long had I been looking for that option! Many thanks @eldarerathis for the directions, I've now found it and set it. Nice. |

What features should I consider when shopping for a cheap Chinese Android tablet? I would not say avoiding MIPS is necessary. I own 6 devices (2 handsets - both Froyo, 3 tablets - 1 Donut, 1 Froyo, 1 ICS and one set top box - Froyo) and you'd be amazed at how many apps will work on the MIPS device that will not work on the some of the ARM devices. And with Magic Code, a hell of a lot of ARM-only apps (games mostly) run just fine on MIPS. |

What are the alternative Android app markets? This is a well thought-out and presented answer, thanks. Because of that I have up-voted it. Unfortunately, it's not much use to me at present because Amazon have not opened their store outside of the US yet. |

What are the alternative Android app markets? Was another question merged into this one? There seems to be some chatter in the comments that doesn't fit with my original question... |

What are the alternative Android app markets? Well, that's new and wasn't around when I asked the question. It performs the same function as AppBrain now, which was the sites main differentiator. |

What purpose does the Notification Flash/Email setting serve? The notification settings in each mail app (GMail & Stock) control whether a notification is made on the pull-down area at the top of the screen. The one under sound and vision controls only the LED flash. FWIW, the setting does work on my Sense-based HTC Desire. |

Is there an Android PMP equivalent of the iPod Touch? I am now using an Orange San Francisco handset (rebadged ZTE Blade), sans sim card, debranded, flashed with FroYo (Android 2.2) and loaded with some well chosen apps as my day-to-day media player. A review of the San Francisco/Blade can be found at: androidpolice.com/2010/10/28/… |

What are the alternative Android app markets? This is very good news for developers - especially since Amazon is waiving the first years fee at the time of writing this. There's a blog as well with some good info at: amazonappstoredev.com |
