Hi, whoever it was that requested my help. I've lost your mail between copying it to the texteditor without saving and an xorg crash. You can contact me via my ubuntuforums profile: ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=503084

Even if Sprint was my provider (it isn't, I'm in Europe) I wouldn't pay that.

@Bryan Denny: Unfortunately not a solution, because I've now no admin access on the windows machine anymore (company laptop).

I'm not a Sprint user, I'm an Orange user ;-)) But I don't have 2.2, yet.

Update: Got Bluetooth working on my Laptop by patching the driver myself. But the quality is poor. PDAnet Bluetooth connects much faster than USB thethering, but it disconnects often.

Are you sure it was 2.1 ? If yes, interesting.

comment What's with the Donut/Froyo?
@Dmitriy Likhten: Yes, and intelligently designed, and a decent price/performance ratio, and secure, and OpenSource, and free, and Linux, and using Java (Python would have been better), and no politics in appstore, and no manufacturer lockin, unlike Apple. Sugar on steroids, so to say. One needed be really stupid to bite in a sour Apple when there's sugar on steroids nearby. Besides, the rumors of sugar being so unhealty are vastly exaggerated. Today it's sugar, tomorrow the 0815-flu, and the day after tomorrow potatoes.

comment Is Appbucket a legal app store?
Yea. And the conclusion is, that app is a cool thingy. Institutionalized piracy, so to say. I of course won't use it ;-))

Yea, you see, here in Switzerland, the cheapest USB cable you can get is 10 $. While you can buy it for 1 - 2 $ on Amazon (and delivered for 5$), I mind the 60 $ customs processing fee. And apart from that, having to connect and disconnect (and bring with you) the cable is immensly annoying.

That application is called Android 2.2+.

I have 2.1 not 2.2 . And yes, ridiculous, but hey, Linux is FOSS, just compile your own and that WiFi thingy is unlocked. I suppose that is why Motarola digitally signs the bootloader and prevents any non-Motarola ROM from running...

comment Are there any risks to rooting a device?
@Aaronaught: I've never seen the source of one of these ROMs. Maybe I didn't look good enough. But even if I had the source, you need to compile from that source, there's no telling whether the ROM image was actually compiled from that source. Then, you've to review the entire source. Good luck with that. If you are really good, it takes you about a year. Then you've to create a gold-card, and some of these tools were closed-source, and that makes me a little bit uncertain about their FOSS motives. Just as the phone companies that don't release the drivers or digitally sign the boot ROM.

I have read it on a codeproject newsletter, don't have it anymore. I don't know anymore, but the 'destroy' part was specific to one line [latest probably] of mobile phones. (it's a kind of fuse, which PERMANENTLY disables your phone if you attemp to load a custom ROM) See here for the nearest thing to a reference: theunlockr.com/2010/07/14/…

I have no Bluethooth (and don't want it either). And unfortunately, the USB cable is wearing out.
