comment Why does Wi-Fi fail to connect to certain public networks?
He'd still get network connectivity then, just no internet access.

comment How to turn off notifications for individual apps?
@Diskdrive If you never use an app you can just as well uninstall it. Besides, unnecessary notifications are merely annoying but no security hazard.

comment Battery - do they last longer if recharged when empty?
I have never heard of using a charge cycle to improve the actual capacity. Completely discharging the battery and then recharging it again to calibrate the battery gauge sounds quite plausible to me, though.

comment How to turn off notifications for individual apps?
If the app has one. One could easily forget adding this setting.

Or purge the app's cache.

comment Instagram creates a new “Camera” folder, how do I deal with it?
Yes, but this would make Instagram use the default folder. He'd still have to use Gallery Exclude to hide the other one.

comment Instagram creates a new “Camera” folder, how do I deal with it?
Saving to 100ANDRO actually makes a bit more sense than saving to Camera. The DCF standard says the folder a digital camera stores its images on must be called a name matching "100ABCDE" and you can't actually expect any application to be able to find and import your photos if it is called any other way. In practice it might work anyway with some programs.

comment Unable to mount from a Mac OS X using sshfs
@iobelix I primarily asked because knowing whether accessing without sshfs works or not might bring some insight into the issue.

comment AnkiDroid - How to Left Align Text?
"This question is unlikely to ever help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet." -- I can't see how this applies here.

comment Allow face-unlock in conjunction with storage encryption?
A thief doesn't even necessarily need access to a photo of you to unlock the phone. He can unlock the phone if he happens to look similar to you.

Have you tried it with a dedicated SSH file explorer (I don't know any for OSX off the top of my head)?

comment What does it mean when the connectivity icons in the status bar go white/gray?
That the syncing services shut down when the device runs out of memory is plausible. But please note that this is only true for the RAM (the working memory) of the phone. Removing apps from the permanent storage -- either SD card or internal -- cannot have helped with this at all.

comment What's causing battery drainage by “Google Services” while packet data is switched on in a 3G dead zone?
Have you tried rebooting your phone yet? If you're lucky, it's just some kind of rare error.

Both, in fact. Is there any way to work around the location restriction?

comment How can I train voice recognition on ICS?
I've found the menu but the only settings that I have there are "Language", "SafeSearch" and "Block offensive words". This is on a Xperia Neo V, stock. (Android 4.0.2 IIRC).

An app called NoBloat can freeze (disable) apps in the free version.

comment Are Japanese keyboards supported?
Have you bought it in Japan? I'd strongly expect a device sold there to support the local language.

comment ICS: any way to restore the “combined view” email notification I had on Gingerbread?
If you get hundreds of emails per day, having to switch from one to the other once does not exactly double the time you need.

comment When the GPS is enabled but not in use, does it drain battery?
I'd like to add that the cellphone component will also drain a lot of battery when it enabled where there is no network.
