I have been a developer since 2002, starting in High School with VB6, Java and HTML; graduating college with a degree in Computer Science.

My work now involves desktop application development, architecture design and doing my best to stay on top of good practices and philosophies.

My range of technologies are from C/C++ and Java to Python and PHP. Recently I have delved into .NET and C#, with some Android development in my spare time.

I learn as much as I can from wherever I can, as such I am an early adopter, a technology enthusiast, and an update-oholic.

comment How do I remove the top and bottom bars on Google Play Books when I'm reading?
That is odd that they don't disappear. I just checked mine and the bars disappear when I tap somewhere in the text or when I swipe to the next page. They stay gone until I tap the page again.

comment Can I damage screen (Nexus 7) by having it turned on and not change for longer periods of time?
I would add that LCD screens are not subject to burn-in; they can suffer from a similar, but not permanent, condition "transient image persistence" - as discussed here

comment How are Googles OTA (over the air) updates delivered/notified?
When my WiFi Xoom was still officially supported, it took several (sometimes 30+) attempts at Force Stopping and Cache Clearing of Google Service Framework before Check For Updates would recognize I had an update.

comment How is WhatsApp able to receive messages when not in use?
Your link is for Nokia - I was unable to find a similar question for Android on their site. Are you sure that the same applies to Android? This Question from their Android FAQ indicates that it utilizes a PUSH architecture (under the section "Are messages still taking too long to reach your phone?") - rather than a constantly connected server/client.

comment Android 4 don't require unlock at home
I will have to try that! I had my setup following the Lifehacker article - but I would rather not have a 2nd app on top of Tasker.

comment Access website hosted over LAN
I had a similar problem - developing a Web Application on my laptop - wanted to see it on my tablet; but with no success over my normal Wifi. I used Connectify to have my Laptop become a wifi access point, and then connected my tablet to that Wifi. I was able to see the website then.

comment Warning received when clicking links in Facebook application
I don't have an answer to disable it - however it is part of Facebook's website; so I'm not sure you can disable it. You can see in the url the php?u=http part. Facebook is passed your URL and is just warning you. When it fails it's just Facebook failing. I used to have to try 3-4 times, both in Chrome and the Android browser before it would work.

comment Is it possible to permanently disable CSS on Android browsers?
Definitely possible to do this on my Desktop Chrome's ABP by adding a custom filter of *.css - However I was unable to find a place within the Android app to add a custom filter.

comment How safe is the android Lock Screen with password?
That is why Mozilla suggests to change all of your passwords after changing the master sync password. The passwords present become outdated and useless.

A lot of the bypass methods require your device to be rooted, or have USB debugging enabled - or to have access to your Google Account. If you weren't rooted, or had USB debugging enabled you can be reasonably assured of your security. The other exploits involve receiving a phone call.

comment How to prepare for upgrade to Jelly Bean - Droid Bionic
Koush (the developer for Carbon) stated that Motorola phones break the backup technique - so he is barring them from being able to use it (source: plus.google.com/u/0/103583939320326217147/posts/Mz4YyHRgkoj)

comment How do I delete an email in Gmail from the notification screen?
Agreed. Also, within Gmail itself it should have options to assign left-swipe and right-swipe, that way you could swipe left to archive, right to delete (or the other way). Maybe next update...

It has been a while since I used it (and set it up). I will try when I get home, unless you figure it out.

comment Motorola Bionic and OG have bad audio jacks
This may be too localized to you, as I had no problems with my OG Droid. However, are you sure it isn't your pair of headphones? Did you try different headphones with the devices? Or was it the same headphones between both phones?

comment Can I mount external SD card read-only?
Do you have a source for your statement "The sdcard filesystem doesn't support being mounted as RO." ? Googling "sd card read only android" (without quotes) shows a lot of instances where this is the case; showing that it is supported, even if it is undesired.

comment Stream media from Play Store on Android To PC
The last time I rented a movie from the Play Store it had a "Download and watch offline" option (a pin, I think) that expired after a viewing. So it was at one time possible to temporarily download a rented movie.
