comment How do I distinguish apps with in-app purchases from completely free apps on Google Play?
Yet how one could search for apps without IAP (without digging into every single product page)? For example, if I searched for "Fixies", I don't see any mention about IAP for your example in the result list.

There is an open issue for this. BTW, Android 5.1 image has the same problem. PS. I'm trying it under VMWare Workstation.

The link works, but the system hangs on logo screen (both while booting from CD or after installation on disk) with 100% CPU load and without disk activity.

@LieRyan, the motivation is very simple. In some categories, almost all apps with IAP are useless, yet they are listed as free. I think this is not a fair approach. A user should have an option to filter out hidden payments as well. Leaving the paid apps in the free category doesn't honor Google.

Well, in my case upgrade even to the latest 4.4.2 did not solve the problem, but after switching the runtime it's running several days. This is possibly another similar bug in the OS. It happened at nights as well, when nobody used the device and it's presumably caused by garbage collection.

Can you try to switch runtime from Dalvik to ART and see if this helps? You need to enable Developer options for doing this (About phone -> Build number, and make 7 taps there).
