comment Wifi scanning for known networks that don't broadcast their SSID
Yes, someone with a wifi sniffer can see the probe requests that your device sends out if it is looking for hidden networks. On some systems you can go to the advanced configuration of an individual network and tell it to not connect automatically, and then it won't probe for it, but I don't think Android has that, so you need to purge and avoid using hidden networks if you don't others to able to determine that you have connected to that network.

comment Why is it that Android still can't be installed as regular OS?
Certainly, much has changed since I wrote this answer. Most importantly was Pachai replacing Rubin and associated re-org at Google. All the signs seemed to change after that, and IO13 was much different than IO12: clearly they are now pushing Chrome as a mobile platform in-of-itself, so I no longer believe they will bring Android to Chrome.

comment Changing android.os.build.serial
@RyanConrad, no I believe it does not come from the hardware, but it should behave as if it came from the hardware - it is supposed to be the equivalent of an IMEI/IMSI (which comes from a telephony device's hardware) for device's without telephony.
