"carrier should not be a problem" – umm, and who then is charging you if not the carrier? Who else might send that billing information?

comment Cannot write files to sd card
Bad idea without knowing which fs types are supported by the device (NTFS certainly not). I rather think Android sees some problems (which ever) and thus mounts the card read-only. See my comment on the question on how to figure what's going on; without knowing the cause, it's hard to fix.

I'd first check if the Android logs give some clue. If you never read them, please take a look at How can I view and examine the Android log? and our logging tag-wiki to get started.

comment Why does my android phone think it was in Japan?
wim, check all of them (best before asking anew, as too many duplicates make it hard to gather the facts). Easy example: Two weeks ago I lived in Japan. Now I live next door to you. I didn't change the SSID of my router, and Google didn't yet update its database. So whenever your device sees my SSID, you're in Japan – according to Google... as onik also pointed out below. We've got this question at least 10 or more times, so all the facts are probably "spread around them".

Not really a rare question: Maps location out by 12,742km - the other side of the world / Google location history wildly inaccurate / Google Maps Location History is showing an incorrect location / Gps mistaken my location and get me to trouble / ...

comment I am having Xolo Play smartphone. I want to support it Gujarati Font. How can I do that?
Same as with most other fonts I'd say. Have you checked the corresponding questions? There are even some posts specifically to Gujarati.

comment Certificate Install without mandatory PIN lockscreen
@GAThrawn I find that inacceptable if I just install a CA to authenticate my web servers via SSL (using self-signed certificates). I'd understand it if it were about signing keys on-device, or authenticating the user – but both are the other way around. Luckily, sgiebels solution seems to work for me, with some minor adjustments I've described in the comments there. Only drawback so far: it requires root.

comment Analyse performance / profile Android System? Why is the system slow?
For first-aid and getting started, please consult our performance tag-wiki, which has the required pointers. Then come back here and either answer your own question (if you were already able to solve the issue), or edit it to include what you've tried and where you're stuck. Thanks!

comment Does turning WiFi on and off use more power than it being constantly on for a set amount of time?
@DanHulme Valid points all – though I didn't "neglect" but willingly "ignored" them. Still, you're correct reminding me of those. To avoid misunderstandings, I've updated my answer accordingly. Thanks for the "broadcast event", my "listener" was active: data received :)

Anytime, Ben: You're asking interesting and good questions, which very much motivates me answering them (not the first time we meet ;)
