@sameer with root greenify can auto-hibernate the apps without user interaction.

comment Google Play: Error downloading app - insufficient space
@Urbycoz If you can't install anything, that is stuff for another related question. I only had problems installing LARGE apps. Emulator and Busybox are tiny compared to today's apps. Also, someone could ask "What about non-rooted devices" and the answer would be the same: It is stuff for another Q&A.

comment Whatsapp: traveling with a pay-as-you-go SIM card
Tested it here with my devices, I switched SIMs and sent message to a regular contact (one I already had a conversation going with). The receiver had the new message from the same phone number from before. YMMV

From what I've researched, WhatsApp asks if you want to switch numbers. Also I am not looking at the app source to see WHEN it checks your phone number. Just that it CAN do it because of its permissions.

Check the permissions for the APP: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp -- basically it can read the SIM and look up your own phone number. It uses the SMS to check if you are spoofing the phone number, but it always knows (and checks) every time you run it what is your phone number. And it uses almost all the nice permissions.

comment Battery goes down from 100% to like 80-75% so fast
I urge you to read this fine article: batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/battery_calibration and then calibrate your battery. If it continues, its a sign that your battery may need replacement. If its in warranty, take it to the manufacturer.

Global plan is not worldwide. Just don't do Verizon overseas. Read this cautionary tale: shankman.com/…

Yes, it is a duplicate.

I won't tag this question as S3 or root because these details are specific to my own case, and have no relation to the broader question.

comment How is Anker battery for Android phones?
The question is completely offtopic. The answer could apply to any kind of battery-using device, but is relevant enough for the android devices to afford a +1

comment Is it possible to change the details of my mobile that my carrier sees?
@onik you cannot classify the device as a tablet or a phone. It has enough characteristics of both to be on the midpoint. Specially since the device only runs up to gingerbread (official roms).

comment How do devices recognize their chargers?
Hum, Samsung is going the 90's Microsoft rabbit hole all the way (and we all know how it ends) but some Motorola devices also b** about the chargers too. So its not a Samsung specific question (hence no Samsung tags).

Oh boy, this is awesome. Does it means the Kobo Glo is expansible to 64GB (since it has an external SD slot too)? it would be insane. Also, I will wait a couple more days @chahk to see if someone answers #1, if not i will accept yours.

comment Find when device was activated
Yes, ANDROID_ID is recreated when device receives a new firmware. And it has no guarantees that it will be unique. I ended up with someone else's farm on a game because of duplicated android_id.

comment Find when device was activated
I think its as good as it will get, because if the device has been wiped / firmware updated, it will show the same date anyway. My P1000L has had a firmware update, and it shows in google only the date of the update, not of the first activation. It also sheds some light on how G indexes your devices, it seems to be by IMEI number. (otherwise it would list two P1000 in my account.
