comment What's the most effortless way for “cloud” back up of photos taken with an Android phone?
Nothing new and constructive to add to my PicPush answer, except that recent updates seem to have addressed the occasional duplicate upload I was receiving.

Missed that, apologies. What I get for answering questions pre-coffee.

comment What functionality is only available when syncing to Windows or OS X?
While I've applied updates via Kies to get them earlier, the other two phones on my account have received those same updates eventually OTA. Samsung Vibrants on T-Mobile. Of course, there are no official "major" updates for our phones yet (Froyo, for instance) so perhaps Kies will be the only recourse at that point.

comment Anyone found a way to move the insert marker one character to the left of to the right?
Swype is installed from the factory on the SGS line, and the tags implied he had that device.

comment Any reason not to allow automatic updating for an app?
Yes, it does. I know others differ, but I'm of the opinion that root should be pretty standard for Android power users.

comment Swype dictionary keeps getting deleted
The backup does capture the dictionary, but only if you use a root backup app that includes the /data partition. Non-root backup apps only capture the apk, which won't get the data.

comment Alternative to Google Latitude?
Fair point. Related to that -- the "Use wireless networks" option adds a great deal of location awareness without GPS usage, but requires consenting to Google's (anonymized) collection of location data. To track your location without the wireless networks option, you're going to be running GPS constantly. TO help cut that down you could look into one of the many rules-based GPS triggers -- turn GPS on or off based on cell tower or nearby wifi networks. There are a few apps for that, such as Tasker or Locale.

comment My Windows laptop wants to repair my phone, but my phone is happy
I'd say it likely is corrupt. The mounted storage is just the FAT32 partition on your memory card -- none of the linux partitions are mounted by default, unless you've got an aftermarket Apps2SD setup. As long as we're talking about your FAT32 partition, GAThrawn's answer below is correction.

comment Can't find Angry Birds
Back when I was having issues getting Angry Birds beta installed, AppBrain's FastWeb Installer managed to install it on my phone even when searching the market produced no results. May be worth a try.
