What folders should I backup to my computer True, but it might create problems when trying to move between ROMs, so I usually avoid it. Works well if you're reinstalling the same/similar firmware, though. |

Can you install vanilla Android on any phone? You may have your reasons to hate CM so much, but at least get your facts right. Only Steve Kondik works for Samsung, but CM is a huge project with dozens of maintainers. The reason CM has releases for Samsung quickly is because it is the no 1 OEM, which means more users who want custom ROMs, and also more devs who have the device to play with. If you follow CM devs on Google+, you'll see that many have sold their Samsung devices and are starting on Sony. Mark my words, Xperia T and newer will get great dev support soon. |

Update to 4.1.2 on a Nexus S with CWM and broken USB port Status 7 is known to occur when trying to flash Ota in custom recovery, since 4.2, even when space and corruption issues do not occur. I've been unable to find a workaround. I have a backup of stock ROM via CWM, reverted to it but Ota isn't showing up even then. |

Update to 4.1.2 on a Nexus S with CWM and broken USB port I have Airdroid for transfer but since 4.1, Ota packages cannot be flashed via custom recovery. It gives a 'status 7' error. |

Power button stopped on my Nexus S Further to above, once you get the phone on by bump trick or fixing the button, remap power action to the search soft key and set awake on volume button press (available in CM and many other custom ROMs). I read about the power button when I got my Nexus S, and have done this as a precautionary measure since day one. |
