Why does taking a screen shot require root access? I'm marking this as the answer since it pretty clearly indicates (at least to me) that the only reason we needed root before 2.3.3 is because there was no system app designed to do it for us. |

Using Android 2.3.4 (stock) as a WiFi Hotsport Unfortunately none that I know of. I'd get in contact with your carrier if I were you, but don't let them know who you are. Call from a payphone, give them a fake name, tell them you're not yet a customer but you're interested in their service, (however many steps safe you want to be) and ask them what their official policy on tethering is. If you call from your phone they can ID you, and if you start asking about tethering and they happen to restrict it you may be putting yourself in their cross-hairs needlessly. I couldn't find their website, so really you just need to do some research. |

Using Android 2.3.4 (stock) as a WiFi Hotsport Carriers can block tethering if they so desire, so it's highly relevant. Just ask anyone without a rooted device on Verizon in the USA. |

What does Skype use all those permissions for? Accounts is probably used to store UserID/PW, personal info is probably to grab your contacts to re-list them in the Skype app since they market it as a phone replacement, and location is probably because something in Skype uses geotagging along with stats like Matthew Read said. |

Map Image Overlay App Generally speaking app recommendations are considered off-topic here as outlined in the FAQ. If you can edit your question to make it more of a "how do I do this" question rather than a "is there an app that can" question you'll probably be safe. |

If an app is written for Android 2.3 will it run on 2.1? The only caveat to this being sometimes the app will technically "work" because it runs without error, but if an app is not optimized for use across different devices (like when an app designed for a phone is run on a tablet) scaling issues and other subtle differences make the app less usable or sometimes completely unusable. This is more of a problem with the developer not coding their app properly, though, not an underlying compatibility issue between versions of Android. |
