♦ Community moderator on Electrical Engineering.

I have three years of experience at a small start-up company which I would not suggest to everyone, but for those willing to teach themselves, it is an excellent opportunity.

I currently work in medical proton therapy as a systems engineer. Both the details of a functioning particle accelerator and the beam physics I work with keep me interested in the day to day of my job.

I am also currently pursuing a masters degree in electrical engineering.

I do not speak on behalf of my company, all views I express are my own.

You actually need a gyroscope and an accellerometer to fully sense motion.

comment What's the differences between the different processors available in the current lineup of devices?
You cannot assume they are all 1GHz. Some processors run at 1GHz and have a 5 stage pipeline with wait states. Another might run at 800MHz and have a 5 stage pipeline with operand forwarding, removing wait states, giving it an advantage in certain cases, not in others. If they both had 1GHz then the comparison would be that the one without wait states is always better.

@Edelcom, It probably only makes a minor difference to you. Yes, it is better to charge the phone in small increments. If your phone is well engineered then when you power connected and the battery charged it will not pull power from the battery. This is a feature a user cannot recognize, so they normally do not do it. The rule here is to charge your phone often and avoid deep discharge. If you are never letting it power off from lack of power you are not at risk of causing battery failure, which is the major thing people cause when they think they need to full discharge.

This question is about an HTC Desire HD. This uses a lithium battery htc.com/www/product/desirehd/specification.html The original phone he mentions also uses a lithium battery, that took some looking. It is speced here: mobiletechreview.com/phones/Sony-Ericsson-K850i.htm

@Arda Xi, You are also incorrect, this does not happen with Lithium batteries. I will add links to answer. I work at a job where I use lithium batteries in the thousands every day.

@Arda Xi, you can discharge it until it says it is dead, but if you give it any time to continue that way you will have the self discharge take it below the safe charge.

Lithium batteries are never shipped full charge, and you should never take the battery through a full charge discharge cycle for "lifetime". This is quite bad for a lithium if you take your discharge to too low a charge.
