Thank you! You're not saying anything about it so I assume the upgrade is relatively safe to do and will normally not wipe the tablet?

I think the thumbnails was one of the first things I deleted. Unfortunately it didn't eat up much of those missing 30G.

Thanks, I wasn't rooted so it wouldn't have helped me then. Good to know for the future though...

@AlEverett It sees the same files as the others. Whatever this is, it is something outside what a non-rooted device gives you access to.

Irritates me as well, a lot :-)

It doesn't have much cache registered... I assumed it did something else, like unjar/unzip of the apk somewhere and then bailed out with an exception and forgot to clean it up when it failed installing. If it tries again and again and again it could add up. But I have no proofs, it just feels like the main suspect :-)

I somehow suspect it is Market/Google Play which is behind all this... With the now 500M free memory, the only time it falls back to some 200M is when Market has been out checking for updates and failed updating (because of low memory it claims, but I doubt 500M wouldn't be enough for an 3,5M update).

Thanks for all the good pointers... I didn't really get anywhere except closer to realizing a real backup and a factory reset is probably my best bet. Thanks again.

Not sure if it is the tombstones or not (because I don't know the unit)... If they are 250k there is no way the 10 of them eats up those 25+GB...

Seems like /data is where it is all used... 26 out of 27G used... Currently 467M free... I just need to figure out with what :-)

@Izzy If you move you're comment to an answer I'll vote you up... I had 10 cores there, the android ls doesn't seem to understand -h so I am not sure which unit it is but if it is bytes (and not blocks) they are just some 250k each. Will try that SD Maid.

@Izzy thanks anyway... Of course, I thought more in the terms of being able to do "du -k|sort -n". You're right of course, it could be that it is partitioned and it is one of the mount points which is running low... If I root it to find out, can I get back to unrooted later or is it an one way street?

@Izzy as I said, it is not rooted... df wouldn't help me much, "du -h" would be great but as it is now, I can only see what the DiskView apps sees and it really doesn't add up. I must be something else, database waste, log files, cores, something. The question is how to find it and get rid of it :-)

@jlehenbauer No, I mounted it on my linux and windows boxes just to see if I could get a peek of what was in /data from there... Couldn't...

@Izzy Tanks but I've done that over and over while clearing data. Chrome is on top with 59.79MB (of which 13MB is on SD card and the rest is the app). I have some 30 apps installed, to get even close to 32Gigs I would need more than 500 in the size of Chrome... I don't use Google Play TV & Movies, all my movies are on the external MicroSD.

comment Is there a way to transmit all sound over wifi from my tablet to my pc?
I don't think you will be able to use the youtube app to get where you want to go but there are a quite a few DLNA (google it) based alternatives out there which could be what you are looking for. I am currently evaluating some of them but my objective is a little bit different and probably the toolset as well. Good luck, maybe someone else have good app suggestions.

comment Why do some devices ship without the Market installed?
Ok, I read it the other day but it looks like most wifi only Honeycomb tablets include Market so it has either changed or wasn't entirely true.

Yes it may, but as I understand it this was about Market and not about Android. Google, to my knowledge, still don't allow Market on devices lacking telephony hardware. Most of the vendors of such devices have their own Market (or people download the Market apk from elsewhere).
