I am a CS student and involved in Project MAXS and aSmack. I previously worked on GTalkSMS, but retired there to spend more time working on MAXS.

My Android handset is a Nexus 4 running CyanogenMod. I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, also running CyanogenMod and an Kindle Fire with, you guessed it already, Cyanogenmod1 :-)

1Kudos to hashcode for his great work regarding CyanogenMod on the Kindle Fire).

comment Exploiting CVE-2013-6282 vulnerability
This is an Android-independent question as it exploids a Linux kernel vulnerability. From a quick view it seems to be that it's a typical C bug of missing the range check. It may be approbiate to ask on security.stackexchange.com, but please consult our sisters site's rules about their scope before asking it there.

comment adb push: sync but not copy
While this command looks promising at first, I couldn't get it to work after a quick try. A real example as requested by cyker would be helpful.

Then you should complain on the page that was redirecting you here.

comment Can using too much RAM drain battery?
That's why I said that Apps using constantly the CPU are usually faulty or at least badly implemented. Note that I would not recommend using apps like Wakelock Detector as this functionality is now part of Android (with 4.4 IIRC).

"Is there a way to have many devices and still get the auto-updating, without building the auto-updating infrastructure?" Sure, just use different accounts for each device.

What makes you think that Scala would increase the code execution time?

comment Android OS uses a lot of data in background, how to turn auto system update check off?
I doubt that the update check is causing this. It's just a few bytes every 24h (if you don't manually trigger it all the time).

comment What are some solutions for remotely connecting to an Android phone?
Thank you. I really appreciate your feedback. Please note that because of a bug in Android 4.4(.2) the service may not run stable on those versions. Also there is a issue with some servers that support privacy lists, that should be fixed in the nightlies.. Feedback welcome.

I have the feeling that you are trying to solve a particular problem. If so, I recommend describing the problem. See also "What is the XY Problem?"‌.

comment Floating browser window that can be minimized?
Browsers are Apps. The only difference I see between the two questions is that this one asks "how to make a browser window float" while the other asks "how to make an app window float". I don't think that, if a solution exists, that there will be one specific to browsers, therefore I also consider this a duplicate question.

comment How can I disable or password protect my device's 'factory reset' function?
I would assume that it's by design. The encryption is there to protect your private data not to brick your device in case you've lost the encryption passphrase.

I am not sure if Stackoverflow deals with such questions. Anyway @bigrammy could you please attach the picture via the sites "add picture" function? The picture link is already broken.

comment Are there technical reasons why Android is not as smooth as iOS and can they be overcome?
This question only attracts low quality technical answers, because most people don't understand the complexity of such a software system. It starts with Android being an open system that needs to run on different hardware, from low-end to high-end, compared to iOS coming from the same manufacturer that also controls the hardware. In my opinion Android is just as smooth as iOS. And I don't see how this question is helpful to future visitors. I am pretty sure the company behind Android will ensure that it stays competitive if there would be a significantly drawback.

comment How can I get a good route for many way-points?
If you edit your question so that it has a meaningful title and doesn't ask for an app, but instead describes the problem you trying to solve (e.g. "How can I get a good route for many waypoints?"), then this question will be eligible for re-opening.

comment How can I get a good route for many way-points?
The problem you describe is known as the "Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP)" in computer science. Unluckily for you, this problem is NP-hard, which basically means that there is no algorithm known to solve it without trying all possible solutions and since the solutions space get's exponential bigger with every place you add, there are many solutions. To sum app: Even if there is an app that would calculate a route it either wouldn't be the optimal route or it would take extremely long to calculate it.

That's an excellent question. I suggest that you ask it as new question here.
