comment “keep screen on if USB debugging” application?
@eldarerathis I forgot to describe the symptoms: Every time I start an application (any application), the screen goes blank and the phone is locked. I have to press the power button to turn the screen on and sweep my finger to unlock the phone. How do I solve this now?

@eldarerathi That StayAwake app is so buggy that it ruined my screen backlight/locking completely, even after I uninstalled it! I think it should be renamed StayAway... :/

@eldarerathis Yes it is. :) And I think that the little app you pointed to works for me very well. If you post your comment as an answer, I will accept it. +2.

@eldarerathis Thanks! My phone runs 2.2, not 2.3 but I'll give it a try.

comment Can Google's Voice Actions be started by voice?
@jlehenbauer The Bluetooth headset button method (mentioned by @devnul3) is a great solution, when using a Bluetooth headset... Imagine if all Android phone manufacturers provided such a button in each and every phone itself. :)

+1. Great answer and insights. Based on this, having the phone constantly listening is impractical. I wonder whether there is a way to have local speech recognition, even if limited to one command only.

@bytebender +1 That's a great solution if I don't mind limiting the choice of phones. Is it the only solution? I would love to hear additional ideas. For example, some phones have only one tactile button -- the trackball. Is it possible to set that trackball to start Voice Actions when pressed long enough?

comment Voice Actions to Start Applications?
Thanks. Of the two applications you posted, only Cyberon advertises being able to "Launch program". I'll check that out.

comment Can I use mono sound on a set of headphones instead of stereo?
@BloodPhilia Take a look at the photo of that plug (I don't have enough points to post the image in the body of the answer). You plug it into your phone's stereo jack. Then you plug your mono ear bud into it. That's stereo to mono. I know this works because I have been using it myself (for an under-the-pillow speaker).
