Android-wise I was an early adopter, pre-ordering a G1 back in 2007. I had it rooted and running custom ROMs before it was a one-click deal and before NANDRIOD backups were easy to do! It's definitely less scary these days.

Having since had HTC Sense and Samsung Touchwhiz skinned devices, and always ending up rooting them to run stock / Cyanogenmod ROMs, I've decided to go all Nexus and currently have a Nexus 4 & Nexus 7.

+1 for Clipper - really useful.

comment Which system files are safe to delete?
The data and system partitions are separate, so removing data from /system won't give you any more room on /data. I think you would need to flash a different SPL with a different partition table.

comment Useful or cool Tasker recipes
Shame this one is closed, it would make a good community wiki. Tasker comes up in so many answers - it's a real problem solver!

comment How to set up Hotmail as exchange ActiveSync on HTC Droid Incredible?
I spent ages trying to solve this for my wife on her Desire (also with Sense). In the end I gave up and had her Gmail pull her Hotmail through POP and now she does everything through her Gmail client. (I know this doesn't answer your question but consider if it's an option for you. We've found the Android Gmail app far superior in any case so it's really worked out better for her this way)

comment Formatting internal storage harmfull?
You shouldn't format it with Windows though, if that is what you are asking. Do a wipe / factory reset on the device itself, then reflash the ROM.

comment Enforcing no synchronization with Google
The option definitely exists in 2.2 & 2.3 - might be worth thinking about installing a custom ROM?

comment Gmail notification sound only for new mail
I get the issue if I mark anything as unread or move an unread archived item back into the inbox (i.e. the notification happens if the number of unread items in the inbox increases)

comment How can I tell the Android Market that I'm running an updated version of Android?
Don't some apps have hardware requirements, e.g. high res screen, that your device might not meet, regardless of the OS version?

comment Easily tabbing to previous or next field
Try this link for the stock Gingerbread keyboard: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202 This should give you contextual options like "Next", "Done" or "Go" when appropriate.

comment Can I stream video from PC to an android device over USB?
Are you looking for a way to share your PC's internet connection over USB, rather than streaming video files stored locally on your PC?

comment Is there a zoom and timer functionality on Nexus S camera?
What GAThrawn said - digital zoom is essentially the same as cropping the image afterwards which you can do within the standard gallery app after taking your picture.

comment How do I configure existing Power Controls widget in Android?
Under Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Interface Settings there is an option for the notification shade power widget but not for the regular home screen widget

comment Why are files sent through Gmail renamed?
I've only noticed this with failed/partial downloads (from anywhere) - when I've had particular problems with something I've ended up with 'downloadfile', 'downloadfile-1', 'downloadfile-2', etc. Otherwise, I'm sure my downloaded files keep the original filenames.

A good comment on there today ;) Current lack of Windows support will be a problem for most, but this is the one to watch.

Have you considered using a visual voicemail app?

Yep, looks that way :/ My other answer appears to be the best chance of getting this working - will try and give it a go tonight.

Yes, I think you should edit the question for a specific device as methods vary significantly between devices.

comment Reduce minimum in call volume
I use Tasker and there are lots of ways you can set the in call volume but only within the standard levels.
