comment Android-based remote software to log in to OSX desktop?
Gee, AndroidVNC has worked fine for me with both Leopard and Snow Leopard, both with the built-in VNC server and with Vine Server. Good luck.

Thanks. Android offers a "pause" button on the *#( page of the keypad; it enters a comma in the phone-number field. There's no way to enter a semicolon or a p on my phone, but Google Contacts on the Web will let me enter whatever text I want, and the phone will sync to it. (Semicolon failed the same as comma; P made GV think it was making an international call, and then failed.) This led me to some more ideas on how to get what I want; see my answer.

changed behavior wasn't due to Voice+; works the same even without it. Must be due to GV update instead

comment How can I send SMS messages from my Google Voice number without using the Voice app?
If the sending phone number that the recipient sees is your top priority, then I think this is a pretty decent way. But if you also want to manage your text-message costs, then this isn't such a good way since each message sent or received will still count toward the limits set by your service provider; messages that go directly through GV get applied to your data plan instead.
