My last permanent role was on Google's Chrome team, helping external developers learn and use HTML5 and Chrome tools. I'm currently baking node apps.

I'm an Aussie in London.

Have you tried it yourself? It's just that I've read elsewhere the app will re-register itself when you run it. Unfortunately, I've messed something up using another suggestion to rename it, and can't easily try it now.

This only stops it appearing when logging in. (It's off by default anyway.) I want to prevent it when I connect Android devices.

Thanks but I want this to happen automatically every time. Also, I think that will kill it altogether rather than leaving it in the background.

This is an unsigned APK under development; would that explain the mismatch?

Actually in this case, I found out after asking this that GiffGaff doesn't actually make the distinction. If you take their tethering option, the whole thing (including mobile use) is suddenly capped.

Robert, nope, no special app required. I realise there's no magic way to do it, I'm presuming they just try sniffing for non-mobile packets, e.g. a desktop browser header. I mentioned the plan (see gizmodo.co.uk/2011/10/…) - because no matter how accurate/feasible, they're definitely charging it, so users need to know how to measure it.
