Android won't see new ringtones saved in the system ringtones folder (Android/media/com.google.android.talk/Ringtones) unless files are transferred to the phone via USB. If you transfer ringtone files to your phone from the cloud, FTP, or some other non-USB method you'll need to clearreboot your phone in order to see your ringtones using the system default ringtone'Media Storage' file picker...(step 3)
Here are the stepsIn order to choose ringtones stored in a custom .MP3different folder using a 3rd party file browser such as Solid Explorer you first need to clear the system default 'Media Storage' ringtone once it's on your device (Android M/Nexus 5X)file picker.
- install a 3rd party file browser such as Solid Explorer from the Google Play Store
- fromclick Settings/Apps, click Apps, click on the 3 dots upper right corner and, click 'Show system'
- from Media Storage/Openclick 'Media Storage', click 'Open by defaultdefault', click 'CLEAR DEFAULTS'
- from Settings/Sound & notification, click 'Phone ringtone', then choose Solid Explorer (or your preferred file browser app) at the 'Complete action using' prompt
- navigate to the folder where you saved your ringtone and select the file
