I don't know exactly how SIM lock works on a technical level, but my understanding is that's it's built into the modem or SIM reader's firmware at some level, which is not modified by custom ROMs. | |

If you are a customer for a length of time (say 6 months+ or so) and tell them that you need it unlocked (maybe to travel outside the country) they will usually give it to you. | |
