I don't know exactly how SIM lock works on a technical level, but my understanding is that's it's built into the modem or SIM reader's firmware at some level, which is not modified by custom ROMs.
Feb 16, 2012 at 9:44 comment added Muhammad Ghandour i'm pretty much interested to know what's bearing the SIM lock ?!... if it's not the bootloader so what would it be ?! .. i've already unlocked the bootloader of the phone, downloaded CM 7.2 but that didn't work out, i have no direction to go unless i specifically know how the phone is locked to a certain carrier !!!

Feb 15, 2012 at 15:00 comment added Ryan Conrad Usually the easiest way is to call the carrier and ask for the Unlock Code. If you are a customer for a length of time (say 6 months+ or so) and tell them that you need it unlocked (maybe to travel outside the country) they will usually give it to you.
