We downloaded some APK files and attempted to open them only to encounter the "There was a problem parsing the package""There was a problem parsing the package" error. So it didn't even make through to the Install screen. However, as it turned out, the files contained malware with a very high probability (according to VirusTotal).

The question is, could it still cause havoc inside the phone even though it didn't go through a proper installation?
