I tried to install a custom ROM on my tab 3 lite, but it got disconnected half way through. it now says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies to continue". So I downloaded kies and connected my tablet, but every time kies says "connecting..." there is a connection error and the tablet disconnects from the pc. any help?

You need to know the model number and serial number. If you do not know them, look at the bottom on the back of the device, and it should list the model and serial number.

Disconnect your tablet from your computer, then open up Kies. Under the "Tools" menu at the top of the Kies window, click on "Firmware upgrade and initialisation". (Yes, on my Kies it is spelled like that at least...) Anyway, type in the model number on the window that comes up, then click OK. On the next screen, type in your devices serial number, then click OK. Once you do that and everything is verified, it will download the firmware/Operating System onto your computer. Once it is done downloading, another window will come up saying that it is ready for the upgrade. Follow the instructions listed on that window, and when you are ready, click "Start upgrade". The instructions listed on that windows will tell you how to get your device into a special recovery mode, and it is different for every device, so I can't help you there... but when you get to that window, just follow the instructions listed there and you will be fine.

I hope this works for you! If not, just comment again!

  • my tablet seems to be turning on, glitching, then turning off, making kies not work. – MartinUbuntu Mar 22 '15 at 18:55
  • Okay, @MartinUbuntu, I have updated my answer to try something else. Let me know how it goes! I am pretty sure this one will work though. – AJDev Mar 22 '15 at 19:39
  • ok @AjDev it says my serial number is invalid. what do I do now? – MartinUbuntu Mar 22 '15 at 19:49
  • @MartinUbuntu Hmmm, make sure you have Kies 3 installed, and it is on the most up-to-date version, and you have typed the model and serial number in correctly. May I ask what the model number is on your device? – AJDev Mar 22 '15 at 19:59
  • My tablet model number is SM-T110, I have kies 2 since my tablet is android 4.2 (kies 3 is for android 4.3 and over) – MartinUbuntu Mar 23 '15 at 7:28
