Okay, first of all I'm sure this answer is all over the internet, but the search terms required to find it with Google are bringing up an enormous number of irrelevant results. I really have tried.

Now, I just switched to Straight Talk yesterday, and as soon as the process was all finalized and my number was ported over I discovered that Lollipop is being deployed for Verizon's Samsung S4's (my model phone). Now, I know that with the Straight Talk AT&T SIM inserted I don't have access to Verizon's OTA's, but if I insert my Verizon SIM, with a deactivated account, can I still get the update OTA once it's actually available? I know they're deploying it over the next several days, but I'm unsure how the phones are grouped up into waves for deployment.

If not, will it eventually be possible to do this with Samsung Kies or by some other method? I'm not looking to root and get into custom ROM's right now, mainly because my phone is already on the NK1 firmware and my options are very limited. Something that is official is preferred. Thanks very much!

  • You can almost certain obtain and flash the OTA with another method. It's possible that you could get the OTA over Wi-Fi with the Verizon SIM, but I'm not sure. – Matthew Read Apr 29 '15 at 18:40

    Have you used this google.com/advanced_search – Firelord Apr 30 '15 at 2:30
  • @firelord I wasn't even aware that existed. I'll give it a shot. Thanks! – Dave Apr 30 '15 at 18:26
