I have a bit of an issue with my old Sony Xperia Z phone. A couple of months ago I lent it to a friend (now ex friend) who decided she would change the pattern lock. When she returned the phone she did tell me the pattern, but as I now have a new phone I had no need to use it so after a while I forgot what it was (so did she). As well as that she lost the sim tray so I am unable to put in a sim card. This means I have no internet connection so unable to use the 'Forgot your pattern?' option.

When I connect it to my computer it isn't even recognised.

I have looked at so many pages trying to help people with the same issue and finally gave up on the idea of restoring all my pictures etc.

However, I now want to sell it and even the Factory/Hard Reset does not work.

Can anyone help me with how to factory reset it please? I am going out of my mind about this. I do not understand how difficult it can be to reset your phone...

All your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Katie

  • Can you not boot into the recovery mode? If yes, what problem are you facing in Hard reset? – Firelord Jul 9 '15 at 18:33
  • @KatieBakhtadze Power off the phone, then press and hold Power ( | ) and Volume Up at the same time, and don't let go of them. The phone should vibrate, and RECOVERY BOOTING... should appear in the top left corner. Keep holding those buttons until it loads the recovery screen, on which there should be a Factory Restore option. Try a few times, recovery mode doesn't always launch properly. If this doesn't work, you could always try to flash the stock firmware onto the phone with Heimdall, which is effectively the same as a factory reset. Let me know if you need help with the latter. – Alison E.E. Aug 14 '18 at 4:39

You gonna need to boot into recovery mod follow this steps

  1. Switch off your Xperia Z first

  2. Switch it back on and the time when you see your phone’s LED notification light turn Pink! (or any other color) — start pressing either the Volume UP or Volume Down key a couple of times to make your phone boot into recovery mode

  3. Once you’re in recovery mode. Use Volume buttons to navigate Up and Down between options and Power button to select an option in recovery.

navigate to the factory reset and click on power button.

  • Thank you for trying to help but unfortunately there are no LED lights coming on at all when the phone is being switched on. I tried with the volume up and down buttons anyway but nothing happens and the phone just switches on. Any other ideas?? Thanks Katie – user116151 Jul 10 '15 at 22:56
