I'd like to take a picture in the exact spot as another photo I've take a while back.

To help lining up the shot, I wonder if it would be possible to overlay the camera app with a semi-transparent version of the older photo?

  • You can crop the picture and then create a scene in Tasker to load that picture which should be shown as an overlay when your camera app is active. This might give you an idea: How to add screen filter with tasker? – Firelord Apr 5 '16 at 15:10

Hello @Manu did you manage to make it work? I'd need the exact same tool. Thank you. – Fundhor Oct 11 '18 at 10:25

Create your own Camera Preview.

In order to do this you'll need to create your own CameraPreview and modify the SurfaceView so that there is an image overlaying it.

You can find the code that you need to control the camera and create a camera preview here:

https://developer.android.com/training/camera/cameradirect#java

Once you have that, you'll just need to manage the overlay and make sure the dimensions line up, etc.
