I have Sony Xperia XZ (F8331) with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The phone is not rooted and developer options are active.

When I press the square button on the bottom of my screen as shown

And I go to another app, this app restarts itself instead of running from the point where I left it.

What I want to do is minimize the app and then come back to it. Sometimes it will happen, but most of the time as I said the app restarts itself. It is especially annoying when I play games.

Is there anything that I can do to make sure the apps stay minimised and not closed?

  • check in developer options, there should be an option for 'memory management' or 'memory optimization' set it to low or none something according to your model, titles can change. if you can't find it just turn developer options off. if won't work post your comment again

  • I cannot find it. Do you know under which "subcategory"it could be? I have debugging, networking, input, drawing, hardware acacelerated rendering, media, monitoring, apps. There are options under each of those but they are on/off options, and each and everyone is turned off. And i kind of need developer options to be on because im using mock location a lot. Thanks for the help

  • I did some research and I dont even have that option. I read about it on reddit, and someone posted a screenshot of their phone and it was located between background process limit and show all ANRs. Unfortunately in my phone they come one after another with nothing like memory oprimisation in between

I know it's sounds foolish But it's worked for me uninstall like 4 to 5 apps and install them back your apps will start showing on the minimize.

As you enabled the Developers options, you could've enabled the Do not keep activities mistakenly. Check it and disable it.

Check the screenshot, options may differ since the image is from Samsung Galaxy.

Here is a screenshot from a Samsung Galaxy running Android 6.0.1

  • Found it and it was off so I dont think its the case. Plus as I said. It is not always that apps starts from the scratch, sometimes I can freely roam between them in a flash.

Or the system closes your apps as your memory decrease. Do you open many apps amd don't close them?
